FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Authorities have confirmed there is no active shooter threat at the University of Arkansas following an earlier alert that prompted widespread concern on Monday afternoon.
At approximately 12:30 p.m., reports of a possible active shooter led university and local law enforcement to respond swiftly to the Fayetteville campus. Multiple calls regarding suspicious activity were received at various locations around the university, including the Mullins Library area. In response, the University of Arkansas issued an emergency alert advising students, faculty, and staff to avoid the area and follow safety protocols: “Avoid. Deny. Defend.”
Despite the initial panic, police have since stated that no evidence of a shooting was found after thorough searches of campus buildings. No suspects have been apprehended, and no injuries have been reported. Classes were canceled for the remainder of the day as a precautionary measure.
During the incident, students inside the Mullins Library were directed to shelter in place or evacuated under the guidance of armed officers visible on campus. Junior Brock Boddie, who was present on the third floor of the library when the alert was issued, described hearing commotion before receiving the warning message on his phone. Nearby public schools and a local Walmart also went into lockdown amid the heightened emergency response.
Officials continue to investigate the source of the multiple calls, emphasizing the importance of community vigilance and caution when reporting suspicious activity. This situation echoes recent incidents nationwide where false reports of active shooters have caused disruption and fear on college campuses.
The University of Arkansas and Fayetteville Police Department thanked the public for their cooperation and reiterated their commitment to campus safety. Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
This alert serves as a reminder for all campus communities to stay informed and prepared to respond quickly to any emergency situations while awaiting official confirmation from authorities.
