Turkish YEO Technology's Major Step in Romania: Investment of EUR 220 Million in 15 Green Energy Projects

Turkish YEO Technology Acquires 15 Green Energy Projects in Romania, Pledges EUR 220 Million Investment

Bucharest, Romania – July 7, 2025 — Turkish energy conglomerate YEO Technology, through its subsidiary Defic Globe, has announced the acquisition of 15 renewable energy project companies in Romania. This expansion, reported by Profit.ro and covered by Romania Insider, signifies a major step in YEO’s commitment to growing its presence in the Romanian green energy sector.

The newly acquired projects collectively boast a total installed capacity of 219 megawatts (MW). Beyond generation, the portfolio includes battery energy storage systems (BESS) with a total potential storage capacity of 320 megawatt-hours (MWh). The combined investment tied to these projects is estimated at around EUR 220 million, underscoring a significant capital allocation towards advancing clean energy infrastructure in Romania.

Strategic Partnership and Market Expansion

The acquisition was executed by Defic Globe in partnership with Emsolt Investments, a renewable energy project developer based in the Netherlands with operational offices across Turkey, Romania, Italy, and Ukraine. This strategic alliance marks a fresh phase for YEO Technology, which first entered the Romanian market in late 2023. YEO’s investment portfolio in Romania has been steadily expanding. In 2023, Defic Globe successfully completed the Caracal Solar Power Plant—a flagship project with an 18 MW peak installed capacity, capable of generating roughly 26 gigawatt-hours (GWh) annually. Building on that foundation, the company initiated construction of two new solar farms in Bobicești, Olt County, totaling 21.3 MWp. These plants are slated to start operations by the second quarter of 2025, with an expected annual production of approximately 34,400 MWh.

Adding to these ventures, Defic Globe formed a partnership with Shanghai Electric Power Co., Ltd. to co-develop two separate photovoltaic plants totaling 129 MWp in capacity within Romania. These developments are independent of the 15 projects recently incorporated by Defic Globe.

Supporting Romania’s Renewable Energy Goals

Defic Globe has emphasized its intention to play a pivotal role in advancing Romania’s renewable energy objectives. The company’s expansion supports both national and European Union targets aimed at enhancing clean energy generation and bolstering energy security.

YEO Technology, headquartered in Turkey, operates predominantly in engineering, automation, and energy infrastructure. Recently, it has deepened its focus on international renewable energy markets, positioning Romania as a key hub for its regional growth ambitions. The group intends to further invest in solar power generation and storage solutions, leveraging its operational base to extend coverage across the region.
