Tata AutoComp Ventures into Railway Sector with Technology Showcase at IREE 2025
New Delhi, November 3, 2025 – Tata AutoComp Systems Limited, a leading automotive component manufacturer, has marked its entry into the Indian railway sector by showcasing its latest railway mobility solutions at the International Railway Equipment Exhibition (IREE) 2025. Held from October 15 to 17 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, IREE 2025 is one of Asia’s largest railway exhibitions, bringing together technology providers, manufacturers, and government agencies involved in railway infrastructure and equipment.
Diversifying into Railways with Advanced Technologies
Making a strategic move to diversify beyond automotive components, Tata AutoComp displayed a broad range of railway-specific technologies including propulsion systems, composite components, seating solutions, and HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) systems designed for rail applications. The company’s booth was inaugurated by State Minister of Railways Ravneet Singh alongside BEML Chairman Shantanu Roy, underlining the significance of this new direction.
The showcase underlines Tata AutoComp’s ambition to leverage its core competencies in automotive engineering and manufacturing to contribute to India’s railway modernization initiatives.
Strategic Partnerships for Localization
Highlighting its commitment to localization, Tata AutoComp has forged partnerships with global leaders in railway technology such as Škoda Electric, Compin Fainsa, and Air International Thermal Systems. Through these collaborations, the company aims to adapt and localize cutting-edge international railway technologies to meet Indian requirements in terms of performance, regulatory compliance, and cost efficiency.
Škoda Electric’s MD and CEO Radek Svoboda emphasized their focus on energy-efficient propulsion solutions for both intercity and metro train applications, aligning closely with government priorities. Meanwhile, Marc Jammot, President of Compin Fainsa, highlighted innovations in lightweight seating solutions that enhance passenger comfort while improving energy efficiency through advanced materials and designs.
Engaging Key Industry and Government Stakeholders
The Tata AutoComp exhibit drew significant attention from important stakeholders across the Indian railway ecosystem, including officials from the Ministry of Railways, Central and Zonal Railway authorities, and major production facilities such as Modern Coach Factory (MCF), Integral Coach Factory (ICF), and Rail Coach Factory (RCF). Representatives from public sector units like BEML, BHEL, and RITES, as well as regulatory bodies including Research Designs and Standards Organisation (RDSO) and Indian Railways Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME), also visited the booth. Furthermore, private sector players such as Alstom, Hitachi, Titagarh Wagons, and Texmaco expressed keen interest in Tata AutoComp’s offerings.
Expansion of Mobility Solutions Portfolio
Traditionally engaged in supplying components and systems to automotive OEMs across passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles, two- and three-wheelers, and tractors, Tata AutoComp operates 21 business units and 11 global joint ventures with 66 manufacturing facilities in India and overseas. This step into the railway segment represents an important expansion of their mobility solutions portfolio to encompass rail transportation.
According to Arvind Goel, Vice Chairman of Tata AutoComp Systems, the railway sector is seen as a natural extension of the company’s automotive expertise. “We intend to leverage our manufacturing scale, engineering capabilities, and quality systems to serve the evolving needs of India’s railway modernization projects,” Goel said.
Manoj Kolhatkar, Managing Director and CEO, added, “Our goal is to be a trusted partner in the railway sector by developing localized, cost-effective solutions based on our automotive industry experience.”
Context: Indian Railways Modernization and Localization Drive
The Indian government’s push to modernize rail infrastructure—including the introduction of state-of-the-art Vande Bharat trains and new-generation rolling stock—has created considerable opportunities for component makers. Emphasizing indigenous manufacturing under the Make in India initiative, the railway sector is actively seeking to diversify its supplier base beyond traditional vendors.
This evolving market, driven by significant government investments in infrastructure and metro expansions across multiple cities, has attracted automotive component manufacturers who bring advantages in mass production, quality assurance, and cost competitiveness. Tata AutoComp’s move exemplifies this trend where expertise from the automotive domain is harnessed to meet the standards and demands of modern rail systems.
IREE 2025: A Platform for Innovation and Collaboration
IREE 2025 served as an important platform enabling Tata AutoComp and other stakeholders to showcase their latest technological advances to policymakers, manufacturers, and industry leaders involved in railway value chains—from rolling stock fabrication to component supply and systems integration.
As the railway equipment market in India continues to grow rapidly, Tata AutoComp’s entry highlights the increasing convergence of automotive and railway industries towards building a self-reliant and technologically advanced transportation ecosystem in India.
