FST Universitas Airlangga Strengthens Global Collaboration with KTH Royal Institute of Technology
Surabaya, October 31, 2025 — The Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR) has taken a significant step to deepen its international cooperation through a strategic meeting held with representatives from the KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden. The meeting took place on Thursday, October 29, 2025, at Room 208, FST Building, MERR-C Campus, UNAIR.
Platform for Academic and Research Collaboration
This strategic gathering served as a platform to discuss academic programs, university profiles, and to study each other’s research and community development activities. The goal was to identify potential areas of collaboration that could be mutually developed between FST UNAIR and KTH.
From UNAIR’s side, the delegation was led by Prof. Dr. Fatmawati SSi MSi, Vice Dean III of FST, alongside Dr. Nur Indradewi Oktavitri ST MT PhD, Coordinator of the Environmental Engineering Study Program, and several other faculty members including Prof. Mochamad Zakki Fahmi SSi MSi PhD and Danar Arifka Rahman ST MT. The meeting commenced with a presentation by Inten Firdhausi Wardhani ST MSc, who introduced the faculty profile, flagship programs, and ongoing international activities involving both students and staff.
“Within our faculty, we have various research schemes that involve students and faculty members. We also collaborate on research grants with external institutions. Similar opportunities exist in our community service programs. Currently, we have several international research and community service initiatives, including partnerships with institutions in Malaysia. We hope to develop similar collaborations with KTH,” explained Inten Firdhausi Wardhani.
Insights from KTH Royal Institute of Technology
Representing KTH, Prof. Dr. Zeev Bohbot and Prof. Dr. Karin Edvardsson Bjomberg shared insights about their departments, academic programs, and identified overlapping fields with FST UNAIR. Prof. Edvardsson Bjomberg highlighted differences and similarities in community service approaches between the two universities.
“In Sweden, we have a concept akin to Indonesia’s Tri Dharma Perguruan Tinggi, called The Three Missions, which include education, research, and social contribution. However, our community service typically emphasizes public dissemination such as newspaper articles and public lectures,” said Prof. Karin Edvardsson Bjomberg.
Exploring Future Collaborative Opportunities
The discussions gradually focused on identifying complementary areas for collaboration, particularly in research development, student activities, and cross-border community engagement. Both institutions also explored the possibilities for ongoing partnerships without geographical limitations, such as virtual guest lectures and joint online academic activities.
The meeting concluded on a positive note, underscoring a shared commitment to cultivating sustainable and productive collaborations that enhance academic excellence and societal impact on a global scale.
