Bulog Implements Modern Agriculture Technology in Karawang, Padi Productivity Increases
KARAWANG, November 4, 2025 — Efforts to modernize agriculture have begun to yield promising results in Karawang Regency, West Java. Perum Bulog, through its PMO Mitra Tani program, recently harvested IR 32 rice varieties from an independent cultivation area covering 5.5 hectares in Kepuh Village, Jatisari District. This land is part of a broader 14.5-hectare cultivation project managed by Bulog within the region.
The successful harvest exemplifies the effective implementation of Good Agriculture Practices (GAP), demonstrating that improvements in agricultural efficiency and productivity are achievable without compromising environmental sustainability.
Integration of Modern Technology in Farming Practices
The PMO Mitra Tani initiative incorporates innovative, sustainable agricultural technologies aimed at boosting yield while maintaining eco-friendly standards. Among the advanced techniques employed are drone-assisted fertilization, the application of biostimulants and biopesticides, and the utilization of combine harvest machines (CHM) during the harvesting process.
Deputy Director of Perum Bulog, Marga Taufik, highlighted the significant increase in paddy yield attributed to these technologies. “By implementing modern agricultural technology, yield increased to 7.2 tons per hectare from the previous average of 4.3 tons per hectare,” he stated at the harvest event held on November 4 in Kepuh Village.
Strengthening the Agricultural Supply Chain
Marga further explained that post-harvest processing of the rice was conducted using Perum Bulog’s facilities at the Karawang Rice Milling Center (SPP), ensuring a seamless transition from production to processing. This approach is part of Bulog’s broader strategy to reinforce the agricultural supply chain from upstream cultivation to downstream processing, optimizing its assets to support national food security.
“While Bulog primarily focuses on downstream activities, achieving high-quality cultivation results is fundamental. We collaborate closely with local communities to introduce effective planting methods and technologies,” Marga added.
Moving Forward with Sustainable Agriculture
The positive outcomes in Karawang serve as a benchmark for enhancing food production while emphasizing sustainable practices. Bulog’s commitment to modern agricultural methods holds promise for increasing rice productivity and securing food availability in Indonesia.
As national efforts to strengthen agriculture continue, the adoption of these technologies in other regions could further propel the country’s goal of food sustainability and self-sufficiency.
