PIRELLI’S CYBER™ TYRE TECHNOLOGY GAINS GLOBAL ACCLAIM FOR ADVANCING VEHICLE SAFETY
Milan, December 19, 2025 – Pirelli’s groundbreaking Cyber™ Tyre technology has been honored with three prestigious international awards, reaffirming its position as a pioneer in automotive safety innovation. Following its recent recognition in the United States as the most innovative technology in the tyre sector at the Autotech Breakthrough Awards, the Cyber™ Tyre has now been celebrated in France, across Europe, and again in the U.S. for its cutting-edge contributions to vehicle safety and smart mobility.
Prestigious Awards Highlight Cyber™ Tyre’s Safety Impact
Pirelli received the “Safety Award” at the 2025 Automobile Awards in France, which honors automotive excellence aligned with the latest market trends. The Automobile Awards jury, composed of 20 industry experts, acknowledged Cyber™ Tyre’s advanced capabilities to improve vehicle safety by delivering real-time data that enables smarter and safer driving decisions. By integrating sensors within the tyre and connecting to the vehicle’s Electronic Control Unit (ECU), the system transmits vital information such as tyre pressure, temperature, and acceleration. This input allows on-board safety systems like ABS and ESP to intervene proactively, for example, by executing earlier braking to reduce stopping distances.
In addition, the sensor-generated data supports communication beyond the vehicle itself. Combined with Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) connectivity and Pirelli’s proprietary algorithms, Cyber™ Tyre technology can inform road infrastructure managers and alert other connected vehicles about hazardous conditions, enhancing the broader smart road ecosystem.
Europe-wide recognition came from Autobest, an independent jury representing 32 countries, which awarded Pirelli the “SafetyBest” title for 2026. This distinguished honor highlights automotive solutions that significantly raise road safety standards. Autobest praised Cyber™ Tyre technology as a pioneering development with exceptional relevance for improving automotive safety. The jury’s detailed testing and analysis bolstered this decision, which complements other annual Autobest awards such as Best Buy Car and CompanyBest.
Further cementing Pirelli’s global leadership, Frost & Sullivan named the company “Company of the Year 2025” in the Global Smart Automotive Tyre Market category. This U.S.-based market analysis firm recognized Pirelli for anticipating industry trends, delivering innovative technology, and driving tangible value. The accolade specifically underscored the transformative impact of Cyber™ Tyre, describing it as a prime example of how digital systems are redefining traditional automotive components.
Leading the Future of Tyre Technology
Andrea Casaluci, CEO of Pirelli, commented on the multiple awards:
“These recognitions underline the evolving role of the tyre. Historically focused solely on vehicle control by managing forces on the road, the tyre is now becoming an intelligent device capable of collecting and transmitting data. Our Cyber™ Tyre system processes this data through advanced algorithms to enable new functionalities — from enhancing vehicle electronics to supporting smart infrastructure. This evolution is crucial for future mobility, including smart cities and autonomous driving. Embracing digitalization and connectivity, Cyber™ Tyre is the first technology of its kind in the tyre industry, and these awards validate our efforts and partnerships with leading car manufacturers.”
Collaborations with Leading Automakers
After two decades of intensive research and development, Cyber™ Tyre technology has been deployed on a variety of production car models. Key to its widespread integration has been a strategic partnership with Bosch, facilitating seamless communication with in-vehicle electronic safety systems such as ESP, ABS, and traction control.
The Cyber™ Tyre system debuted commercially in 2021 on the McLaren Artura, marking the first production vehicle to use this smart tyre technology. It was followed in 2024 by a track-focused version on Audi’s RS 4 Avant Edition 25 Years. In 2025, the latest and most sophisticated Cyber™ Tyre variant was launched on the Pagani Utopia Roadster, showcasing full integration with the vehicle’s control electronics.
Further expansion was announced this year through a partnership with Aston Martin, set to equip upcoming models with Cyber™ Tyre technology. Additional collaborations across various market segments—including premium and high-volume models—are in development and expected to be revealed soon.
What is Pirelli Cyber™ Tyre?
Cyber™ Tyre is the first-ever integrated hardware and software system embedded inside the tyre that collects critical operational data such as pressure, temperature, and acceleration via built-in sensors. This data is processed in real time by proprietary algorithms developed by Pirelli. The system communicates continuously with the vehicle’s electronic control units, enhancing the functionality of safety and driver-assistance systems like ABS, ESP, and Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS).
By enabling advanced warnings of critical situations and optimizing vehicle responses, Cyber™ Tyre improves overall driving safety, efficiency, and comfort. Moreover, its connectivity facilitates data sharing with road infrastructure and other vehicles, playing a vital role in the development of smart roads and future autonomous mobility scenarios.
Pirelli’s Cyber™ Tyre stands at the forefront of intelligent mobility innovation, redefining the role of tyres from passive components to active safety devices that contribute crucial digital intelligence to modern vehicles and road networks worldwide.
