November 3, 2025, 2:34 PM – Deportes
The promising Mexican golfer Omar Morales has secured an exemption to compete in the prestigious World Wide Technology (WWT) Championship, a PGA Tour event scheduled from November 6 to 9, 2025, at El Cardonal at Diamante in Los Cabos, Baja California Sur.
A Rising Star from Puebla
Omar Morales, hailing from Puebla and currently a student at UCLA, is set to be one of the four Mexican players participating in the tournament and one of just two amateurs in the field of 120 competitors. Joining Morales are fellow countrymen Emilio González, an aspiring PGA Tour professional, Alejandro Madariaga, and amateur Emilio Gil Leyva.
Morales is returning to the WWT Championship for a second time after his debut in 2024. While he was unable to make the cut last year, this experience serves as motivation as he aims to advance further in this edition. His expanding resume includes appearances in the Mexico Open at Vidanta in both 2023 and 2024, as well as playing in the US Open major tournament in 2023 and again in 2024. ### Earning a Spot by Exemption
The tournament organizers have granted Morales a special exemption to compete in the WWT Championship, highlighting their confidence in his potential. This opportunity places him among an elite roster of international golfers.
A Star-Studded Field
The WWT Championship in Los Cabos will showcase a remarkable lineup. Among the notable participants is British golfer Luke Donald, captain of the victorious European Ryder Cup team in their recent triumph over the United States. American stars J.J. Spaun, ranked sixth worldwide and the 2025 U.S. Open champion at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania, and Johnny Keefer, 2025 Korn Ferry Tour Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year, will also be competing.
Others include world No. 12 Ben Griffin, six-time winner Tony Finau, reigning champion Austin Eckroat, and previous champions such as Patton Kizzire (2017), Matt Kuchar (2018), and Erik van Rooyen (2023), making for a highly competitive tournament.
The Venue: El Cardonal at Diamante
El Cardonal at Diamante, the venue for the event, opened in 2014 and holds the distinction of being the first golf course designed by Tiger Woods’ TGR Design. The course combines natural desert landscapes with oceanfront views and challenges, reflecting the design philosophy of the PGA Tour legend.
Looking Ahead
Omar Morales’ participation signals a continuation of his ascent in professional golf circles and represents Mexican talent on an international stage. With a strong field and a challenging course ahead, Morales and his compatriots will look to make a significant impact during the tournament’s four days of intense competition.
