Netflix Promotes Elizabeth Stone to Chief Product and Technology Officer

Netflix has announced the promotion of Elizabeth Stone, its top technology executive, to the newly created position of Chief Product and Technology Officer. In this expanded role, Stone will oversee the streaming giant’s product, engineering, and data teams, further integrating leadership across key areas that drive the company’s innovation and member experience.

Stone joined Netflix in 2020 initially to lead the company’s data and insights team, which focuses on harnessing research, analytics, and data science to enhance the user experience for Netflix members worldwide. Her technical expertise and strategic vision earned her the title of Chief Technology Officer (CTO) in October 2023, making her the first Netflix executive to hold that position.

The new role combines the responsibilities of CTO with those traditionally held by the chief product officer. This leadership consolidation follows the departure of Netflix’s prior chief product officer, Eunice Kim, in September 2025. Greg Peters, Netflix’s co-CEO and former chief product officer, hailed Stone as the “clear choice” for this expanded responsibility. “Elizabeth is the clear choice to lead our Product and Technology teams as we pursue big, bold priorities across Netflix,” Peters said in a statement. “Over the last six years she’s demonstrated a remarkable ability to simplify complexity, connect the dots across our business, and help teams move quickly. Under her leadership as Chief Product and Technology Officer, we’ll continue to drive innovation across the company and deliver a best-in-class experience for our members.”

Stone’s background stands out in the tech leadership realm, given her foundation in economics. She earned her PhD in economics from Stanford University and holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from MIT. Before joining Netflix, she worked as an equity derivatives trader at Merrill Lynch. She also has significant leadership experience from her tenure as vice president of science at Lyft, the ride-sharing company, and as chief operating officer at Nuna, a digital health firm.

Her unique blend of expertise in data science, product innovation, and economics positions her to steer Netflix as it continues to evolve strategically within the highly competitive streaming market.

As Netflix pursues ambitious goals in content delivery and technology development, Elizabeth Stone’s appointment as Chief Product and Technology Officer signals the company’s commitment to integrating technology with product innovation to enhance the viewing experience for its global subscriber base.
