Roanoke County Career and Technology Center Celebrates Major Construction Milestone with “Topping Out” Ceremony
ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. — The construction of the new Roanoke County Career and Technology Center has reached a significant milestone with the recent “topping out” ceremony held on Friday. This event marks the installation of the tallest part of the building’s support structure, symbolizing that the building has reached its full height.
Hundreds of community members, project partners, and local officials gathered to commemorate the occasion. Attendees signed a ceremonial beam, which will be permanently installed as part of the new facility, serving as a lasting emblem of community involvement and commitment.
Dr. Ken Nicely, superintendent of Roanoke County Public Schools, emphasized the collaborative nature of the project during the event. “Today is a celebration of teamwork — the kind of teamwork that takes a vision and makes it a reality,” he said. “It’s really a celebration of all the folks who have made this possible.”
The new Career and Technology Center is set to replace the current Burton Center for Arts and Technology located in Salem. This state-of-the-art facility is being developed at an estimated cost of $75.8 million and aims to enhance workforce development opportunities for students in Roanoke County.
The topping out ceremony is a traditional landmark in construction projects, representing not only structural progress but also the dedication of everyone involved in bringing the project to fruition. As construction moves forward, the community looks ahead with anticipation to the center’s opening and the expanded educational opportunities it will provide.
