Latin America’s representation at this prestigious autumn event is remarkable, led by Mexican golfers Emilio Gil Leyva from Culiacán, Emilio González of San Miguel de Allende, Alejandro Madariaga from Puebla, and Omar Morales, also hailing from Puebla. These athletes are competing fiercely against some of the world’s top players in what has become one of the season’s most anticipated tournaments.
In addition to the Mexican participants, other prominent Latin American players include Emiliano Grillo from Argentina, Cristóbal Del Solar from Chile, Colombians Nico Echavarría and Camilo Villegas, as well as Rafa Campos from Puerto Rico. This diverse and skilled group cements the tournament’s status as a truly international competition.
The New Wave: University Golf Talents Step Up
The tournament also serves as a platform for the new generation of professional golfers, with 27 former participants of the prestigious Cabo Collegiate collegiate event competing in this edition. Names such as Mason Andersen, Frankie Capan III, Luke Clanton, Cristóbal Del Solar, Nick Dunlap, Austin Eckroat, Doug Ghim, Will Gordon, Harry Higgs, Taylor Moore, Trey Mullinax, and Gordon Sargent feature prominently. This fresh wave of talent represents a promising future as these players transition from the collegiate circuit to the professional level, competing alongside established PGA TOUR champions.
Mexican Players Qualify Through Merit
Mexican golfers Emilio Gil Leyva and Alejandro Madariaga earned their spots through domestic qualifiers, showcasing the robust growth of golf within Mexico. Gil Leyva secured his place by winning the Mexican Qualifier presented by National Car Rental on October 5, while Madariaga triumphed at the Mexico Match Play on October 6. Their participation embodies the growing depth and competitiveness of Mexican golf on the international stage.

The tournament features an elite field that includes 31 players who have won on the PGA TOUR within the last two seasons. Notably, eight players have secured victories this year, including Nick Taylor, Joe Highsmith, Garrick Higgo, Ben Griffin, J.J. Spaun, William Mouw, Steven Fisk, and Michael Brennan. Fisk and Brennan have been particularly impactful in recent FedExCup autumn events, underscoring the high caliber of competition at Los Cabos.
A total of 42 international players from 20 countries and territories are competing, contributing to the event’s global flair.

Among the participants are three Major championship winners: J.J. Spaun (2025 U.S. Open champion), Wyndham Clark (2023 U.S. Open champion), and Francesco Molinari (2018 Open Championship winner). Additionally, Luke Donald, the captain of the victorious European Ryder Cup teams of 2023 and 2025, will be competing this week, adding star power and experience to the tournament.
Previous WWT Championship winners such as Austin Eckroat (2024), Erik van Rooyen (2023), Matt Kuchar (2018), and Patton Kizzire (2017) are also vying to claim the title again on Los Cabos’ challenging course.

The championship is also a showcase for promising young players making their mark on the PGA TOUR. Among these are 21-year-old Luke Clanton, 23-year-old David Ford, and 22-year-old Gordon Sargent. Clanton and Ford earned exemptions for the upcoming season through the PGA TOUR University program, while Sargent was the number one ranked amateur golfer in the world in 2023. Ford’s leadership position in the Golfweek Junior ranking highlights his potential as a rising star in American golf.
