Technology Vital in Globalising Sanskrit, Says SVVU Vice-Chancellor
Tirupati, September 2, 2025 – Emphasizing the crucial role of technology in modern education, Sri Venkateswara Vedic University (SVVU) Vice-Chancellor Rani Sadasiva Murty underscored how digital advancements serve as a vital tool in spreading Sanskrit literature worldwide. Her remarks came during the international conference titled “Empowerment of Education through Technology and Innovations in Pedagogical Practices” organized by the National Sanskrit University (NSU) in Tirupati on Tuesday.
Speaking at the event, Vice-Chancellor Murty highlighted the indispensability of technology in contemporary pedagogy and its transformative potential in taking classical subjects like Sanskrit beyond geographical and linguistic boundaries. She stressed that incorporating digital tools into Sanskrit education not only enhances accessibility but also makes the ancient language more relevant in today’s interconnected global environment.
Echoing this perspective, Prahlad R. Joshi, Vice-Chancellor of Kumar Bhaskar Varma Sanskrit and Ancient Studies University, Nalbari, Assam, elaborated on how online platforms and digital resources are instrumental in disseminating Sanskrit’s timeless wisdom to a global audience. According to Joshi, these innovations allow the profound knowledge enshrined within Sanskrit texts to reach diverse learners and scholars internationally, thereby enriching global cultural and intellectual heritage.
The conference featured insights from international delegates including H. Lucy Guest from the United Kingdom, Krishnakeerthi Prabhu representing the ISKCON order in the USA, and Tikaram Nyaopane and Navaraj Katle from Nepal. They highlighted Sanskrit’s extensive contributions to universal fields such as philosophy, science, spirituality, and other knowledge systems. The delegates also reiterated that many ancient Sanskrit manuscripts encompass remarkable scientific findings, which continue to inspire contemporary advancements in education, healthcare, and technology.
In his presidential address, NSU Vice-Chancellor G.S.R. Krishnamurthi reflected on the university’s strides in integrating traditional Sanskrit scholarship with cutting-edge technological tools. The event further included speeches by NSU’s School of Education Dean P. Venkat Rao and Finance Officer Radha Govind Tripathi.
