Morocco Signs Agreement to Build New Advanced Technology School in Dakhla
Dakhla, Morocco – November 30, 2025
In a significant move to promote regional development and higher education, Morocco has signed a partnership agreement to establish the National School of Advanced Technologies in the southern city of Dakhla. This project aligns with the Royal vision aimed at accelerating socio-economic progress in the southern provinces by reinforcing education, infrastructure, and innovation.
The agreement was formalized on Saturday by a consortium of key stakeholders, including Azeddine El Midaoui, Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation; Ali Khalil, Wali of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab; El Khattat Yanja, President of the Regional Council; Nabil Hmina, President of Ibn Zohr University; and Khalid Zouahri, Director General of the local development company, Dakhla Aménagement et Développement.
Boosting Higher Education and Regional Development
The establishment of the National School of Advanced Technologies is a strategic endeavor to expand access to quality higher education in Morocco’s southern regions, often underserved in educational infrastructure. The initiative is part of broader national efforts to promote spatial justice and to extend university offerings across the territory, particularly in areas critical to future economic growth.
This school is designed to emphasize cutting-edge fields such as advanced technologies, artificial intelligence, robotics, and digital systems. By providing innovative training in these areas, the institution aims to cultivate a highly skilled workforce tailored to the evolving needs of Morocco’s labor market and to bolster the competitiveness of the Dakhla-Oued Eddahab region.
Project Details and Funding
With an estimated budget of 100 million Moroccan dirhams (MAD), the project reflects substantial investment. The Regional Council of Dakhla-Oued Eddahab is contributing 20 million MAD towards the initiative. The technical development company, Dakhla Aménagement et Développement, will be responsible for conducting technical studies, overseeing construction, and monitoring the project’s progress to ensure timely completion.
Upon its inauguration, the school will broaden the scope of engineering education available in the region and serve as a hub for research and innovation, poised to elevate Dakhla’s academic reputation nationally and internationally.
Supporting Broader Regional Growth
The launch of this advanced technology school is part of a comprehensive national strategy supporting economic and educational development in Morocco’s southern territories. This strategy also includes the creation of other prominent institutions, such as the National School of Commerce and Management (ENCG) in Dakhla and a medical school in Laayoune, designed to provide local youth with opportunities to pursue higher education and professional training without relocating.
By nurturing talent locally and improving educational infrastructure, these efforts aim to stimulate job creation and sustainable economic growth, contributing to Morocco’s overall development goals.
