BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya — The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) – Nueva Vizcaya, in collaboration with Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU), officially launched the Region 2 Science and Technology Week celebration on Thursday at the NVSU Bayombong Campus. The event will run through October 11, highlighting the region’s advancements and practical solutions in science and technology.

This annual celebration serves as a platform to showcase innovative research and technology that address local community and industry needs. By promoting these homegrown developments, the event aims to encourage collaboration among various stakeholders to foster regional progress and sustainable development.

A key feature of the celebration includes exhibits, prototype displays, and presentations of locally developed technologies from state colleges and universities throughout the Cagayan Valley region, which includes the provinces of Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino, and Batanes. The innovations presented emphasize practical applications intended to drive growth in both community welfare and regional industries.

DOST Secretary Renato Solidum graced the event as the guest of honor, underscoring the critical role of science and technology in accelerating regional economic growth and development. His presence highlighted the government’s commitment to supporting science-based solutions in the countryside.

Simultaneously, the provincial government, under the leadership of Governor Jose Gambito, hosted Governors’ Night at the CMP Convention Center. Governor Gambito described this fellowship as an opportunity to honor valued partners and reaffirm a collective dedication to advancing science, technology, and innovation across the region.

As the host institution, Nueva Vizcaya State University continues to position itself at the forefront of scientific and technological advancement in the region. The university’s robust research and development initiatives aim to deliver tangible benefits to local communities and industries alike. According to Jonathan Nuestro, the provincial director of DOST Nueva Vizcaya, the celebration also provides a prominent venue for NVSU to showcase its research outputs and technological innovations, thereby reinforcing its status as a leader in science and technology education throughout Region 2. The week-long event successfully highlights the invaluable contributions of local researchers, educators, and government agencies in fostering an environment where science and technology can thrive to meet the evolving needs of communities and industries in Cagayan Valley.
