Celebrating Achievement: UGM Fisheries Students Awarded Prestigious MTCRC Scholarship for Marine Technology Excellence

Perikanan UGM Proudly Announces Recipients of the Marine Technology Cooperation Research Center (MTCRC) Scholarship

Yogyakarta, March 18, 2025 – The Department of Fisheries, Faculty of Agriculture at Universitas Gadjah Mada (UGM), celebrates the remarkable achievement of its master’s students who have been awarded the prestigious Marine Technology Cooperation Research Center (MTCRC) scholarship. A total of six Master of Fisheries Science students have secured this honor, comprising three continuing recipients and three new awardees.

The MTCRC scholarship is a distinguished program designed to enhance human resource development in the marine and fisheries sectors. This scholarship stems from a collaborative initiative between Indonesia and South Korea, aiming to bolster academic capacity and research capabilities within the maritime domain.

Through this scholarship, recipients receive comprehensive support including access to advanced research facilities, training in marine technology, and mentorship from seasoned experts. This holistic support system empowers students to deepen their knowledge and actively contribute to the advancement of marine sciences in Indonesia.

Among the newly awarded students are Hana Cahya Maharani and Fentriana Aji Prastiwi, who expressed profound gratitude and pride in their selection. Hana shared, “We are incredibly thankful to MTCRC for this opportunity. The scholarship not only facilitates our studies but also opens significant avenues to contribute to research and development in Indonesia’s fisheries sector. The support encompasses tuition fees, publication funding, seminar activities, and various skill-enhancing trainings.”

Fentriana echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the vital assistance provided by both the Department of Fisheries at UGM and MTCRC. “The support we receive forms a valuable foundation to hone our research expertise in marine sciences. We aspire to maximize this opportunity to generate positive impacts on sustainable marine resource management in Indonesia. Additionally, the scholarship significantly eases the financial burden on our families, enabling us to focus fully on our master’s program,” she explained.

The MTCRC scholarship has yielded substantial benefits for many Indonesian students, fostering academic growth and research excellence in marine and fisheries sciences. The program is anticipated to continue strengthening the partnership between Indonesia and South Korea in maritime science and technology.

The accomplishments of Hana, Fentriana, and their peers signify not only personal milestones but also serve as inspiration for fellow students to persistently advance their knowledge in support of Indonesia’s fisheries and marine sectors.

This initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
