China’s BYD and Exxon Mobil to Deepen Partnership in Hybrid Technology
Beijing, January 27, 2026 – Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer BYD Co Ltd and U.S. energy giant Exxon Mobil Corporation have announced plans to strengthen their collaboration in hybrid technology. The announcement was made through a statement released by BYD on Tuesday, following the signing of a long-term strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two companies on Monday.
The enhanced partnership aims to further develop cutting-edge hybrid vehicle technologies and explore joint research and development initiatives. Key focus areas include customized product innovation, the application of new materials, and expanding their collaboration for next-generation automotive solutions.
Last year, BYD and Exxon Mobil previously cooperated on launching a specialized engine oil tailored specifically for BYD’s plug-in electric vehicles, marking the beginning of their joint efforts to improve hybrid EV performance and efficiency.
The MoU paves the way for broader cooperation opportunities, underscoring both companies’ commitment to advancing sustainable automotive technologies and meeting growing global demand for hybrid and electric vehicles. By leveraging BYD’s expertise in electric vehicle manufacturing and Exxon Mobil’s strong background in energy and lubricants, the partnership seeks to accelerate innovation that benefits the EV industry at large.
As climate concerns and environmental regulations prompt automakers worldwide to embrace cleaner energy solutions, collaborations such as this reflect a strategic alignment between traditional energy companies and EV manufacturers to support the evolving mobility landscape.
