BBVA Technology América Expands Beyond Technology Services to Support Global Business Units
Mexico City, September 18, 2025 — BBVA Technology América, a key company within the BBVA Group based in Mexico, has announced a strategic transformation that expands its operational scope beyond its traditional technology services. With over 20 years of history, this move represents a significant milestone as the company diversifies its offerings to include specialized support services for global units of the BBVA Group.
New Specialized Services Across Continents
Until now, BBVA Technology América’s focus was exclusively on technology solutions. The new strategy introduces specialized service centers designed to support vital BBVA business areas such as Global Risk Management (GRM) and Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB). These services will span three continents — America, Europe, and Asia — creating a more integrated and robust global support network.
Robert Altes Solis, CEO of BBVA Technology América, emphasized the importance of this expansion:
"This is a historic milestone for the company — the first time in more than two decades that our services are growing beyond technology. Being chosen as a strategic lever highlights the crucial role we play within BBVA’s global ecosystem."
Strategic Growth with Multiple Advantages
The expansion aligns with BBVA Group’s strategic vision to leverage BBVA Technology América’s competitive advantages while maintaining the high quality of existing services. Key benefits of this expanded scope include:
- Building a growing ecosystem of specialized talent.
- Utilizing favorable time zone differences to operate continuously in coordination with teams in Spain and other countries.
- Benefiting from advantageous fiscal and regulatory environments in the region.
To support this growth, a unified management structure has been established. This framework preserves the company’s technological core while enabling the scaling of critical services from the Americas to other global locations.
Projected Talent Growth and Diversification
Currently, BBVA Technology América comprises over 800 employees, primarily from STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). With the launch of these new specialized services, the company plans to recruit more than 120 new professionals by the end of 2025 and continue growing in 2026. Recruitment will focus on diverse skill sets including finance, risk management, security, software development, and data analysis.
This development offers important opportunities to diversify professional profiles within the company and create new career development paths both in Mexico and across BBVA’s international ecosystem.
From a Technology Company to a Global Service Platform
Founded in 2001 in Puerto Rico, BBVA Technology América expanded throughout Latin America between 2002 and 2008, reaching countries like Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Venezuela, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Argentina. A major milestone was the 2015 inauguration of the “Centro de Procesamiento de Datos Lago Esmeralda (CPD LE)” in the State of Mexico, which established the firm as a regional technology hub by integrating services from data centers across the continent.
The current BBVA Technology América is the result of the merger of subsidiaries such as BBVA Axial Tech, Datio, and BBVA Next Technologies. It has played a pivotal role in the BBVA Group’s global digital transformation by providing critical infrastructure, security, architecture, and software factory capabilities. With active services in more than 14 geographies, the company has led the standardization of processes and platforms throughout the Americas.
Looking Forward
This expansion firmly establishes BBVA Technology América as a high-value operational base within the BBVA Group and lays the groundwork for further service expansions to additional business units worldwide. By broadening its expertise and service offerings, BBVA Technology América continues to fuel BBVA’s digital and business transformation in an increasingly interconnected global financial ecosystem.
