BYD and Exxon Mobil Expand Partnership to Revolutionize Hybrid Technology

China’s BYD and Exxon Mobil to Strengthen Hybrid Technology Partnership

Beijing, January 27, 2026 — Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD Co Ltd and U.S. oil giant Exxon Mobil Corp announced plans to deepen their collaboration in hybrid technology, according to a statement released by BYD on Tuesday.

The two companies have signed a long-term strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at expanding their joint efforts in research and development tailored to customized hybrid products. The partnership will also explore collaborative ventures in new material applications, among other focused areas that support hybrid vehicle innovation.

BYD and Exxon Mobil first teamed up last year when they jointly launched an engine oil specifically designed for BYD’s plug-in electric vehicles. Building on this initial cooperation, the expanded partnership signals a commitment to accelerating advancements in hybrid technology and sustainable automotive solutions.

The MoU agreement, signed on Monday, reflects both parties’ interest in combining BYD’s expertise in electric vehicle manufacturing with Exxon Mobil’s strengths in chemical innovation and lubrication technologies.

The move comes amid growing global focus on clean energy and environmentally friendly transportation options. Industry experts view such cross-sector collaborations between traditional oil companies and electric vehicle makers as increasingly important in driving the transition towards more sustainable mobility.
