BBVA Technology América: De Tecnología a Plataforma Global de Servicios Especializados

BBVA Technology América Expands Operations Beyond Technology Sector with New Global Services

Mexico City, September 18, 2025 — BBVA Technology América, a key subsidiary of the BBVA Group headquartered in Mexico, has announced a major strategic transformation that significantly broadens its operational scope beyond its traditional technological services. This move marks a pivotal milestone in the company’s more than two decades of history, positioning it as a global center for specialized business services.

Diversifying Beyond Technology

Historically focused exclusively on delivering technological solutions to BBVA Group units, BBVA Technology América is now expanding its service offerings to include specialized support for Global Risk Management (GRM) and Corporate & Investment Banking (CIB) across three continents: the Americas, Europe, and Asia. This strategic expansion entails the creation of new specialized service centers, enhancing the company’s role within the BBVA ecosystem.

With this initiative, BBVA Technology América is set to incorporate advanced capabilities in key business areas such as risk management, finance, operations, security, and quantitative analysis. This broader range of services aims to provide value-added support to critical business units worldwide, reinforcing the company’s integral position within the Group.

Strategic Growth and Competitive Advantages

The expansion aligns with BBVA Group’s overarching strategic vision to leverage the competitive advantages of BBVA Technology América. Among the key benefits of this development are:

  • Growing Ecosystem of Specialized Talent: The company anticipates cultivating and retaining a highly skilled workforce with diverse professional backgrounds to support its expanding operations.
  • Ideal Time Zone Location: Positioned to work seamlessly in coordination with Spain and other BBVA countries, allowing continuous and effective global collaboration.
  • Favorable Fiscal and Regulatory Conditions: Operating from Mexico provides regulatory and tax frameworks conducive to operational scalability.

To manage this growth effectively, BBVA Technology América has established a unified management structure that maintains its technological core while enabling the scaling of critical services from the Americas to other BBVA geographies.

Robert Altes Solis, CEO of BBVA Technology América, described the expansion as a historic milestone:
"This is the first time in over 20 years that BBVA Technology América expands its services beyond technology. Being chosen as a strategic lever emphasizes the central role we play within BBVA’s global ecosystem."

Workforce Expansion and New Skill Sets

As part of its growth strategy, BBVA Technology América plans to hire over 120 new professionals by the end of 2025, with continued recruitment expected in 2026. The new talent will primarily specialize in finance, risk, cybersecurity, software development, and data analytics. This influx of diverse profiles will help the company diversify its expertise and create new career development pathways within Mexico and across BBVA’s international network.

Currently employing more than 800 staff predominantly from STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), the company’s broadened service scope signifies a vital opportunity for internal evolution and positioning as a strategic business services hub.

From Technology Company to Global Service Platform

Founded in 2001 in Puerto Rico, BBVA Technology América expanded during 2002–2008 to various Latin American countries including Mexico, Chile, Colombia, Venezuela, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Argentina. The opening of the "Centro de Procesamiento de Datos Lago Esmeralda" (CPD LE) in the State of Mexico in 2015 established the company as a regional technological powerhouse by integrating services from multiple data centers across the continent.

The current entity of BBVA Technology América emerged from the merger of several subsidiaries—including BBVA Axial Tech, Datio, and BBVA Next Technologies—and has played a fundamental role in BBVA Group’s global technological transformation. Today, it supports over 14 countries with critical capabilities in infrastructure, security, systems architecture, and software factories, leading standardization of processes and platforms throughout the Americas.

Future Outlook

By expanding into new business areas, BBVA Technology América consolidates its value as a high-impact operational base within BBVA Group. This strategic shift not only solidifies its current service portfolio but also lays a strong foundation for further growth and diversification across additional BBVA business units globally.
