AWS Unveils New Learning Solutions to Bridge AI Skills Gap

November 29, 2025 — Amazon Web Services (AWS) has introduced four new learning solutions aimed at addressing the growing skills gap in artificial intelligence (AI) technology. These offerings provide learners from diverse backgrounds with a comprehensive educational journey—spanning foundational knowledge, hands-on practice, skills validation, and real-world application. The initiative emphasizes experiential learning tools and professional certification to equip individuals and organizations with the competencies necessary for AI innovation.

According to AWS, the newly launched solutions include:

  • AWS Skill Builder Meeting Simulator
  • Cohorts Studio
  • AWS Microcredentials
  • AWS Certified Generative AI Developer – Professional

Comprehensive Learning Resources with AWS Skill Builder

AWS Skill Builder serves as the cornerstone of the new program, offering over 1,000 free learning resources, including more than 220 AI-specific courses. The curriculum caters to a broad range of learners—from AI novices to advanced practitioners—and covers topics from basic cloud computing to cutting-edge areas such as generative AI and agentic AI. The platform is designed for flexible use, allowing learners to progress at their own pace according to their schedules.

Realistic Practice Environment: AWS Skill Builder Meeting Simulator

A standout feature is the AWS Skill Builder Meeting Simulator, an interactive learning tool that recreates real-world meeting scenarios. Participants engage in dialogue with AI-driven virtual characters that simulate various challenging stakeholders, such as executives posing tough questions or experts conducting technical reviews. Learners communicate through voice or text, receiving immediate feedback, which helps build practical communication skills critical for explaining AI solutions clearly and convincingly.

Collaborative Team Learning via Cohorts Studio

The Cohorts Studio is a collaborative platform designed for organizational teams to learn together. It supports study groups focused on exam preparation, AI bootcamps, and game-based competitions that foster friendly rivalry while enhancing team skills. Customers with an AWS Skill Builder Team subscription gain access to Cohorts Studio at no additional cost, promoting continuous learning within corporate environments.

Practical Skill Verification with AWS Microcredentials

In addition to conventional knowledge assessments, AWS has introduced AWS Microcredentials, a hands-on approach to validating skills through practical tasks within actual AWS environments. Unlike traditional certifications that mainly test understanding of concepts, Microcredentials require candidates to demonstrate their ability to perform specific operations. Initial Microcredentials include AWS Serverless Demonstrated and AWS Agentic AI Demonstrated, both demanding problem-solving proficiency and real implementation capabilities. This enables organizations to better assess potential hires’ job readiness.

New Professional Certification for Generative AI Developers

AWS has also announced the beta registration for its new professional certification, AWS Certified Generative AI Developer – Professional, which opened on November 18. This certification is tailored for developers with at least two years of cloud experience who seek to validate their expertise in building production-ready generative AI solutions. The exam covers foundational models, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) architectures, and responsible AI deployment, reflecting the latest industry standards.

Industry Impact

AWS’s ambitious educational initiatives come amid a surge in AI adoption across industries, where the demand for skilled practitioners far outpaces the current supply. By providing accessible, practical, and collaborative learning tools alongside rigorous credentialing, AWS aims to help close the AI talent gap, empowering a wider range of professionals to contribute to AI-driven innovation.
