Korean Intelligent Information Systems Society Hosts 2025 Fall Academic Conference and Launches Global AI Management Institute

Gwanggyo, Gyeonggi Province — November 28, 2025

The Korean Intelligent Information Systems Society (KIISS) held its 2025 Fall Academic Conference on November 28 at the Next-Generation Convergence Technology Institute in Gwanggyo, Gyeonggi Province. Under the theme of "AI and Generative Genomics: Next-Generation Convergent Technologies and Regional Innovation Ecosystems," the conference brought together experts from academia, industry, and the public sector to discuss the transformative future shaped by artificial intelligence (AI) and generative genomics.

Establishing the Global AI Management Institute

In response to the rapidly evolving global AI industry, KIISS reorganized its structure to better equip intelligent information experts for forthcoming challenges. A key highlight of the event was the announcement of the establishment of the Global AI Management Institute, with Professor Tae-Ho Hong of Pusan National University appointed as the inaugural director.

Professor Hong outlined plans to strengthen partnerships, notably establishing collaborations with the Korean Management Institute at George Washington University, aiming to promote AI-driven transformation in Korea’s industries. He also announced the upcoming launch of a Global AI Executive Course slated for next year to train industry leaders in leveraging AI technologies and research effectively.

Chairman Lee Jung-Seung of KIISS, also a professor at Hoseo University, delivered the opening address, emphasizing the critical role of AI in driving regional innovation and next-generation convergent technologies. He reaffirmed the importance of embedding discussions on reliability, ethics, and policy alongside technological advances.

Conference Highlights and Keynotes

The conference commenced with a keynote speech by Waycen Kim, CEO of Kyungnam, titled “AI Endoscopy and the Future of Medical Screening,” focusing on AI applications in healthcare diagnostics. Following this, Professor Jae-Kyu Lee (KAIST emeritus professor and professor at Xi’an Jiaotong University) delivered a lecture titled “The Origin of Genes Discovered by AI,” showcasing how AI is opening new frontiers in life sciences research.

Focus on AI’s Convergent Impact and Trustworthiness

Throughout the conference, sessions explored AI’s integration with autonomous systems, data strategies, robotics, and bio-convergence technologies, highlighting their collective impact on regional ecosystems. Given the rapid expansion of AI technologies, discussions also addressed vital themes such as ethics, policy, and the establishment of trust frameworks necessary for responsible AI adoption.

Coinciding with the conference, the KIISS’s AI Reliability Research Group, led by Huh Yong-Seok, introduced their new publication “Changes and Challenges in AI Reliability” (Cheongram Publishing). The book offers systematic coverage of crucial concerns in the generative AI era, including data bias, explainability, accountability, privacy, and legal and ethical issues. It serves as both an academic resource and practical guide for stakeholders across industry, public sectors, and academia.

Looking Ahead: Sustaining AI Innovation and Collaboration

Professor Lee Jung-Seung emphasized, “This event reaffirmed that AI plays an indispensable role in driving innovation across communities and industries through next-generation convergent technologies. Equally, ongoing dialogue on reliability, ethics, and policy must keep pace with technological progress.” He also pledged that KIISS will continue fostering a sustainable technological ecosystem via extensive collaboration among academia, industry, research institutions, and government.

The new Global AI Executive Course, to commence in 2026, will further equip South Korea’s top executives with cutting-edge knowledge in global AI industries and research by facilitating engagement with KIISS experts and international scholars. Chairman Lee expressed confidence that this initiative will position Korea at the forefront of AI-driven innovation and management.
