Strengthening Global Ties: UB Collaborates with NTUST through Innovative Sabbatical Program

Universitas Brawijaya Strengthens International Collaboration with National Taiwan University of Science and Technology through Sabbatical Leave Program

Malang, Indonesia — In a strategic move to enhance its international academic network, Universitas Brawijaya (UB) has reinforced its collaboration with the National Taiwan University of Science and Technology (NTUST) via an active Sabbatical Leave program. The initiative underscores UB’s commitment to fostering global research partnerships and innovation in industrial ergonomics.

From August 1 to August 31, 2025, Ir. Remba Yanuar Efranto, ST., MT., Ph.D., a faculty member from UB’s Department of Industrial Engineering, conducted joint research activities with Professor Chiuhsiang Joe Lin of NTUST’s Department of Industrial Management at their campus in Taiwan. This collaborative research focused on the critical field of ergonomics, specifically exploring the topic titled “Ergonomic Purchase Decision.”

The study aims to deepen the understanding of how ergonomic factors influence consumer behavior, particularly during the decision-making process for purchasing products. Recognizing ergonomics as a pivotal element in product selection, the research highlights its role in enhancing user comfort and performance. The findings are anticipated to contribute significantly to the development of user-centric products that meet ergonomic standards, thereby improving overall customer satisfaction.

Beyond product design, the collaboration sheds light on ergonomics’ strategic role in promoting employee well-being and social sustainability within workplaces. These areas are increasingly prioritized in establishing healthier, more productive, and sustainable work environments. The research outcomes are expected to offer actionable recommendations for industries to develop ergonomic products and work systems that are user-friendly and socially responsible.

The Sabbatical Leave program also serves as a vital platform for disseminating knowledge and facilitating academic exchange between Universitas Brawijaya and NTUST. Both researchers have pledged to produce joint publications in reputable international journals, which will bolster UB’s contributions to global research in ergonomics and industrial management. This cooperation highlights UB’s growing reputation as an internationally-oriented research institution with an advancing academic profile.

Additionally, this partnership opens up further opportunities for collaboration, including student mobility programs, cross-institutional supervised research projects, and workshops focused on human factors engineering. Through these strategic initiatives, UB and NTUST aim to drive innovations that support sustainable industrial practices and prioritize societal well-being.

Universitas Brawijaya’s Sabbatical Leave initiative reflects its ongoing dedication to strengthening international research collaboration and fostering scientific innovations with broad societal impact. The partnership with NTUST aspires to make meaningful contributions to the development and application of ergonomic principles in sustainable development practices worldwide.
