Marcus Wandt Appointed Head of Group Strategy and Technology and New Member of Saab’s Group Management

24 October 2025, Linköping, Sweden — Saab, a leading global defence and security company, has announced the appointment of Marcus Wandt as Senior Vice President and the head of the newly established group function, Group Strategy and Technology. In this capacity, Wandt will also join Saab’s Group Management team effective from 1 November 2025. The creation of the Group Strategy and Technology division marks a strategic move by Saab to reinforce its competitive edge in the rapidly evolving defence technology landscape. This newly formed group function will oversee critical areas including corporate-level strategy development, technological innovation, mergers and acquisitions, partnerships, and ventures.

Marcus Wandt brings a wealth of expertise to his new role, having previously served as Saab’s Chief Innovation Officer. His background is deeply rooted in both aviation and cutting-edge technology; he is a former Swedish Air Force fighter pilot and has held the position of Chief Test Pilot at Saab. Notably, in 2024, Wandt was among the astronauts who participated in the European Space Agency’s mission to the International Space Station, underscoring his hands-on experience with advanced aerospace technology.

Micael Johansson, President and CEO of Saab, expressed confidence in the appointment, stating, “Technology research and partnerships are strategic priorities for Saab to ensure we stay at the forefront of innovation as technological development continues at a very high pace. Marcus has an exceptional track record in terms of his technology and innovation expertise while he is also a strong and visionary leader.”
