Hyundai Motor Group, NTU, and A*STAR Launch Corporate Lab to Drive Advanced Manufacturing Innovation in Singapore

Singapore/Seoul, October 13, 2025 – Hyundai Motor Group (HMG), in collaboration with Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore), and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), has officially inaugurated a cutting-edge Corporate Lab at the Hyundai Motor Group Innovation Center Singapore (HMGICS). This new Corporate Lab marks a pioneering partnership in Singapore’s automotive manufacturing sector, aiming to accelerate advanced manufacturing research and development (R&D), technology commercialization, and talent cultivation.

A Hub for Innovation in Software-Defined Manufacturing

Situated within HMGICS—the Group’s first smart factory and Software-Defined Factory (SDF) testbed—the Corporate Lab will function as a dynamic nexus for breakthrough R&D and proof-of-concept initiatives. Its core focus areas include artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, 3D printing, and smart manufacturing technologies. By integrating academic prowess with industrial applications, the lab is poised to propel Hyundai Motor Group’s vision of the Software-Defined Factory to new heights while bolstering Singapore’s reputation as a leading global innovation hub.

Juncheul Jung, Executive Vice President and Head of Manufacturing Solutions Division at Hyundai Motor Group, underscored the strategic significance of the collaboration:
“Hyundai Motor Group is accelerating its transition towards SDF to stay ahead in the rapidly evolving global mobility landscape. The Corporate Lab represents a significant milestone towards realizing this vision. The next-generation manufacturing technologies developed here will be deployed across our global operations to enhance the Group’s competitive edge in the future.”

Advancing Singapore’s Manufacturing Ecosystem and Talent Development

Hyun Sung Park, CEO of HMGICS, emphasized the Corporate Lab’s role in Singapore’s industrial R&D ecosystem:
“The Corporate Lab is a vital research hub that encapsulates our commitment to the SDF transformation. Collaborating with talented researchers and industry professionals in Singapore, we are advancing key technologies such as AI, robotics, and additive manufacturing while fostering local talent and creating high-value jobs. Our initiatives not only reinforce Singapore’s manufacturing R&D capabilities but also lay a strong foundation for pioneering innovations globally.”

In addition to global applications, the Corporate Lab will actively engage with local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within Singapore. This collaboration is intended to stimulate the adoption of next-generation manufacturing technologies among local industries, buoying economic growth and enhancing the nation’s manufacturing competitiveness.

Strong Academic and Research Partnerships

NTU Singapore, ranked 12th globally in the ‘QS World University Rankings 2026: Top Global Universities’ among over 1,500 institutions worldwide, brings diverse expertise and high-caliber research capabilities into the partnership. A*STAR, Singapore’s lead public sector agency driving mission-oriented research, complements the initiative by providing advanced scientific and technology support. Together with Hyundai Motor Group’s industry leadership, the trio forms a powerful alliance to shape the future of smart manufacturing.

The Corporate Lab launch demonstrates Hyundai Motor Group’s commitment to leveraging Singapore’s unique innovation ecosystem for the development and swift industrialization of cutting-edge manufacturing technologies, reinforcing their drive toward sustainability and technological leadership in the automotive sector.
