FILKOM Universitas Brawijaya and Kyushu Institute of Technology Japan Initiate Joint Research Agreement Exploration

The Faculty of Computer Science at Universitas Brawijaya (FILKOM UB) has embarked on a promising path toward international collaboration by initiating discussions for a joint research agreement with the Graduate School of Life Science and System Engineering at Kyushu Institute of Technology (Kyutech), Japan. The exploratory meeting was held on Monday, October 6, 2025, at FILKOM’s building F in Malang, marking a significant milestone for both institutions in strengthening academic and research ties.
High-Level Delegations and Collaborative Framework
Present at the meeting were key leaders from both sides, including FILKOM UB’s Dean, Ir. Tri Astoto Kurniawan, ST., MT., Ph.D., IPM, and Kyushu Institute of Technology’s Graduate School Dean, Prof. Chikamune Wada. The discussions centered on formulating the framework for joint research activities, including funding responsibilities where each party would cover operational costs within their capacity, except for jointly agreed expenses specific to research projects.
The agreement aims to engage a broad spectrum of FILKOM UB’s academic community—researchers, lecturers, students, and staff—from various study programs. These include undergraduate programs such as Informatics, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, Information Technology, and Information Technology Education, in addition to master’s and doctoral programs in Computer Science and Information Systems. This multi-level academic involvement is designed to enrich research outputs and provide a comprehensive learning platform.
Coordination of agreement details will be facilitated through official channels, with Prof. Dr.Eng. Fitri Utaminingrum from FILKOM UB designated as a key contact.

Prof. Chikamune Wada highlighted that Kyushu Institute currently hosts alumni from FILKOM pursuing their master’s degrees, illustrating an ongoing connection that provides fertile ground for expanding collaborative efforts. He expressed optimism that the partnership would open greater opportunities for FILKOM UB’s students and faculty to participate in international research projects, thereby elevating the academic standards and global engagement of both institutions.
Ir. Tri Astoto Kurniawan affirmed FILKOM UB’s strong commitment to international collaboration as a strategic initiative to broaden global perspectives and enhance research and innovation capabilities. "With this joint research agreement, FILKOM aspires not only to strengthen the research capacities of both institutions but also to expand contributions in innovative and applicable fields of technology related to data recognition and processing," he stated.
