Jakarta, September 18, 2025 – Demonstrating outstanding talent and innovation, two students from the Business Information Technology program at BINUS University’s School of Information Systems, Bekasi campus, have distinguished themselves at the prestigious IndonesiaNEXT Season 9. Jason Emmanuel and Atha Marcella earned top honors at this national digital talent development event, proving their capabilities and creative problem-solving skills.
IndonesiaNEXT Season 9 is a highly competitive program that attracts thousands of participants from across Indonesia. The event includes multiple rigorous stages, such as certification, ideation bootcamp, mentoring, pitching sessions, and culminates in a final summit held in Jakarta. This intensive development process aims to nurture and elevate the nation’s digital talents to meet industry challenges.
Jason Emmanuel secured the Best Role Hacker award by developing PennyWise, an intelligent financial management app powered by artificial intelligence. PennyWise integrates features like a financial chatbot, receipt optical character recognition (OCR), and balance prediction using Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) technology. The app is designed to help young people manage their personal finances more wisely and efficiently.
Jason shared insights about his achievement: “The key is consistency and commitment, because innovation always begins with the courage to recognize a problem and seek a solution. I have learned a lot about how the knowledge gained at university can be effectively applied to solve real-world challenges.”
Meanwhile, Atha Marcella was recognized as Best Role Hustler for her work on Synca, an application that translates spoken language into sign language in real-time using an avatar. This tool facilitates communication for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing by providing transcription history and an AI summarization feature, supporting inclusion in education and the workplace.
Reflecting on her experience, Atha said, “To become great, we have to be fearless. Don’t be afraid to try because you never know when a big opportunity will come. I am grateful that BINUS encourages us to innovate boldly and think inclusively.”
The accomplishments of Jason and Atha underscore BINUS University School of Information Systems’ commitment not only to delivering academic excellence but also to fostering innovation, collaboration, and the courage students need to create impactful solutions for society.
