Majority of Respondents Satisfied with Solar Panel Street Lighting at Science and Technology Park, UPN “Veteran” Jawa Timur
Surabaya, August 31, 2025 — As part of the fourth week of the Community Service Program (Kuliah Kerja Nyata, KKN) focused on building an environmentally friendly campus, Group 7 from Universitas Pembangunan Nasional “Veteran” Jawa Timur (UPN Veteran Jatim) has conducted an evaluation survey on the solar panel-powered public street lighting installed around the Science and Technology Park (STP) building. The findings reveal strong satisfaction among campus community members regarding this green initiative.
Gathering Feedback from Campus Users
The survey targeted various stakeholders at the university including students, campus visitors, and staff of the Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPPM). It aimed to assess the benefits of the newly installed solar street lighting in terms of illumination quality, safety, comfort, aesthetic enhancement, and its alignment with the campus’s green policies.
Positive Ratings Across Multiple Aspects
According to the survey results:
- Safety: 71.4% of respondents felt safe and another 28.6% felt very safe when walking past the STP area at night.
- Comfort: Regarding the comfort of activities conducted in the area, 57.1% reported feeling comfortable, while 42.9% felt very comfortable.
- Aesthetic Value: The presence of the solar-powered lighting was perceived to improve the campus’s beauty and modern feel, with 57.1% agreeing and 42.9% strongly agreeing.
- Environmental Contribution: Respondents were evenly split on the system’s support for the green campus concept, with 50% agreeing and 50% strongly agreeing.
- Utility: More than half (57.1%) deemed the solar lighting program useful, and an additional 42.9% considered it very useful for daily activities.
- Overall Satisfaction: The majority expressed satisfaction ranging from satisfied to very satisfied.

Akbar Firdaus, the head of Group 7, emphasized the importance of this evaluation. “This survey is crucial in ensuring that our efforts translate into tangible benefits for the entire academic community,” he stated. “The feedback serves as valuable input for us and the university to further develop environmentally friendly facilities.”

The evaluation demonstrates that the solar panel street lighting project extends beyond mere physical installation. It effectively contributes to creating a safer, more pleasant, energy-efficient, and eco-friendly campus environment. This endeavor also highlights how student initiatives can play an instrumental role in campus sustainability and innovation.
