Union County Deputies Implement New Digital Citation Technology to Enhance Traffic Stop Safety
Union County, Ill. (KFVS) – July 24, 2025 — Union County law enforcement is embracing new technology aimed at improving the safety and efficiency of traffic stops for both deputies and motorists. The Union County Sheriff’s Department has begun using an electronic citation system developed by Quicket Solutions, allowing officers to write, issue, print, and file traffic tickets entirely digitally.
Sheriff David Wilkins explains that this transition to a digital citation system is a significant step forward in modernizing the department’s operations. “It’s important for our department to enter into the digital age,” Wilkins said. The new system is designed to reduce the time officers spend on the side of the road during traffic stops, thereby enhancing safety by allowing drivers and deputies to clear the roadside more quickly.
While the process of initiating a traffic stop remains unchanged, the digital citation technology streamlines what comes after. “The traffic stop isn’t done any differently than before when we were handwriting tickets. It’s just quicker and more efficient. We’re still walking up to the car and asking for your information,” Wilkins noted.
This technological upgrade is not limited to just the Union County Sheriff’s Department; all law enforcement officers within Union County are adopting the electronic citation system. By using this digital platform, the department hopes to improve overall traffic stop safety and efficiency in the community.
With the implementation of this new technology, Union County joins a growing number of law enforcement agencies nationwide moving toward digital solutions to enhance public safety and streamline law enforcement procedures.
