Robocup 2025 Kicks Off in Abu Dhabi with Participation from 22 Countries

Held at ADNEC and hosted by Khalifa University within Abu Dhabi Autonomous Systems Week

Abu Dhabi, UAE – November 12, 2025 – The highly anticipated Robocup Asia-Pacific Robot Championships, known as "Robocup 2025," officially commenced today at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC). The event is proudly hosted by Khalifa University of Science and Technology as part of this year’s Abu Dhabi Autonomous Systems Week, a gathering dedicated to advancing self-driving and robotic technologies.

Dr. Hamad Kurki, General Chair of Robocup 2025 and Assistant Professor in the Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering Department at Khalifa University, highlighted the significance of the tournament as a global platform for knowledge exchange and technological innovation. He emphasized that artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics are foundational components in constructing a sustainable knowledge-based economy.

"Robocup 2025 represents not only a competition but also a vital exchange hub supporting progress in AI and robotics, which are key drivers behind UAE’s Vision 2031 and the National Industrial Strategy," Dr. Kurki told the Emirates News Agency (WAM) at the event’s inauguration.

Dr. Kurki explained that these cutting-edge technologies are pivotal in advancing government digital transformation by enabling 100% digitization of processes. Moreover, innovations in robotics and AI play crucial roles across essential sectors such as healthcare, disaster response, and smart city development. Hosting Robocup aligns with Abu Dhabi’s ambition to establish itself as a global innovation and technology hub.

Extensive Preparations and Strategic Partnerships

Khalifa University undertook extensive preparations to organize the event through its Local Organizing Committee, including its Strategic Robotics Challenges Program. This initiative was instrumental in coordinating volunteers, facilitating interactive showcases, supporting competitions, and training student participants.

The university also collaborated actively with regional and international partners from academia, industry, and government, ensuring a well-rounded and impactful event. Khalifa University’s own teams proudly compete among the distinguished international participants.

Global Participation and Competition Highlights

Robocup 2025 has attracted over 700 competitors representing 22 countries. Prominent teams include 22 from Singapore, 19 from Japan, 18 from Russia, and 10 from China, with the UAE fielding 5 teams. This high level of global participation underscores the event’s prestige and the growing worldwide interest in robotics and autonomous systems.
